You can select as your home link a K2 category which will be set to to bring only the featured items of this category. These featured items will show on the frontpage. Of course there are many options for this, but it depends mostly on what you want to show.

Consider your homepage as a K2 category actually. You can either bring forward only the featured items of one or multiple categories, as I mentioned above, you can just bring all items from one category, let's say the latest items and you can create a very nice design for them.
