I'm new to K2 and i'm trying to locate the area to update the social sharing icons.  I would like to remove some of the icons and add twitter.  

Does anyone know where would I need to go to make those edits?

Take a look at what Simon has done here with an override template.

Use firebug to see what he is doing with the social sharing at the top, who nows you may even find a template there to your liking
