But what I want to do is basically create a widget for other sites to showcase top 5 top stories on our site. Is this crazy talk?

K2 is being implemented in the coming weeks, I'm not the lead developer but have spent a bit of time in the current Joomla setup to know about things. Everything I've tested and done with K2 in the past few weeks has shown it to be incredibly flexible and so I thought this may be possible.

Ultimately what I'd like to create is a stylized widget that we could offer (say 170x320) which would pull in the top 4 stories from our site, catholicregister.org. We could then share the code with partner sites. I'd ideally like to do it without RSS and instead limit it to selected stories. At present we use the sticky function in iJoomla:Newsportal's article manager to denote top stories, but this is not going to be used when K2 is in place.

So is this something that would ever be possible with K2? I've attached an image of the ideal little widget.
