Is there a step by step - that explains how to set the number of blog entries - till the post start archiving into page numbers

I have a blog setup on my home page, i want to show 4 post and then see some page numbers at the bottom of the blog.

Can anyone help out - it seems hard to find answers to what seems to be the simple questions.

 

Go to the category parameters and set how many items you want as leading, as primary, etc. If you want only 4, then just put 4 to the Leading items and the number 1 to the columns, to the right next parameter, if you want to show the one under the other as a list.
