K2 Migration was created by Gifford Technology
I am currently in the process of testing out Joomla 1.6 and just got the latest k2 that supports 1.6. My question is anyone have any ideas/tools/thoughts on how I may go about exporting my k2 articles and categories for Joomla 1.5 and converting it to the 1.6 site?
Thanks for any input,
Jesse

Bufff I have the same dilemma. I just think in all the content i have in my site and i just tremble... What should be done? upgrade first joomla to 1.6 and then k2 to 2.5 or what? It will keep all the content, images and so... I know this is just a beta but this question of migration keep me worried

I havent read anything here about moving k2 from 1.5 to 1.6, but you might try this
First backup your 1.5 site.AkeebaBackup
install the 2.5 svn on your 1.5 site and test it to be sure the items categories, etc are there
If they are use phpmyadmin and dump all the K2_ files
Set up a new 1.6 test site and install the svn
use phpmyadmin to pull all the K2_tables into it or import them one at a time
I assume(dangerous) that the tables are the same since the same svn creates them in both 1.5 and 1.6
Remember the quote where you downloaded the svn "Feeling comfortable working with software under development?"
My guess is that there will have to be a release of 2.5 before you will see any official comments on this

What kind of release-blocking bugs are in 2.5? If I install 2.5 SVN to Joomla 1.6, will it be painless to update to the final when it comes?
Also, I wonder if jUpgrade extension support might be added to K2 1.5 version to help migrations: www.matware.com.ar/

Thanks for the input. So far I was able to take my 1.5 articles and categories and just copy them into 1.6 that sort of worked except for the user linking, so right now I started over with a clean slate and figuring out my user migration. I then think I will try William's suggestion so that the tables match.
Side note AkeebaBackup is a must for any Joomla installation.

I would be very interested in knowing how that went, Jesse - did you encounter any further issues/problems or did it go smoothly from there? Did you get your users relinked?

Sorry for the long delay Carolyn but I had to abandon the project for a while and I do not remember how far I got. However I am starting the project back up and will be more then happy to supply the steps I figure out. That is there is no official way yet.
