hi william thank you for your fast response - although not new to joomla i'm pretty confused by the template tutorial i had hoped it would be simple to remove the wording - is the tutorial saying that i need to copy info across somewhere first in order to edit k2?

Take a look at your site with ftp or your built in control panel file manager.
you should see YourSiteRoot/components where you will find com_k2
you should also see YourSiteRoot/templates/YourTemplateName where you should find a html directory
in the html directory you may or may not already have a com_k2 subdirectory depending on wether or not your template supports k2 by default
The override is eaisly created by making a directory on your site called:
YourSiteRoot/templates/YourTemplateName/html/com_k2/templates and copying the folder from
YourSiteRoot/templates/components/com_k2/templates/default into it and renaming "default" to YourOverrideName
Then edit item.php in that file
If you need help send friend request and pm me

hi william,
i'm closing in thanks to your help -so far i have:
"in the html directory you may or may not already have a com_k2 subdirectory" - there was no com_k2 even though i thought my website template (simplecity2) supports k2 by default so i created a folder named 'com_k2' in the html folder then created the folder 'templates' into it (i didnt copy across the k2_com folder into the new k2_com folder should i have done this?
then i tried to copy across the default folder in the component/k2 to my templates directory but it doesn't appear in it - i have tried to ensure i am copying it to the direct file but it just doesnt appear
i'm not on hotmail so cant pm you on that sorry and thank you for your time
