K2 permissions issues - user can't edit another user's item

I migrated Joomla articles to K2 content (most of which were created by Super User). New users now don't see the K2 item edit link for those imported articles. Likewise if a new user creates a new item of their own, even the Super User can't edit that item in the front-end.

Both the Super User and the other users belong to the same K2 User Group.

Lost.

only super menu gets the front-end edit link even though all users (including super admin) are part of the same K2 user group

Have you set up the k2 user group permissions?

To the best of my knowledge it's setup. All permissions set to "Yes" for that K2 user group, but there also seem to be other "default" permissions I can't see or edit in the main K2 options.
