my client would like to have their logo appear on the page when a visitor clicks 'print' - I have been able to locate the 'k2.print.css' but can't find where the php file is that controls what items are on the page. is this in the standard item.php template?

Hi. Yes, the print page uses the default item.php layout. There are several checks in there to detect if you are in print or normal mode. Take a look at the code it should help you a lot.
