Best way to remove sold k2 items was created by sllc
Hi,

I was wondering what would be the best way to remove / mark sold items in k2? Here are some thoughts:

1. Delete the items but wouldn't it be bad for SEO? For example, search result will lead to a 404 page instead of product information because its sold.

2. Set items to a 'Sold' category. However, I have sh404sef for my site and changing the category will give a new url with the category. This will also cause the old url to point to a 404 page again.

3. Marking the k2 item image with sold. My concern is that it might be difficult to separate sold items with ones in stock.

Any feedback will be much appreciated. Thanks!

Depends on what you use to sell. I sell access to books and novels at two sites I put together and I use PPD for both and it works fine but the simple answer for you might just be that once it is sold, UNPUBLISH it if you are worried. After all there may be a legal obligation under tax laws for you to keep it for some years anyway. Keeping it as UNPUBLISHED or ARCHIVED once sold may be all you have to do.

There may be some extension you can get that allows immediate unpublishing of something when sold though, if you do a search for one. I would do a search here and also at Joomla and if no luck, through Google because not all extensions for K2 or Joomla are listed at the K2 or Joomla sites.

Greg.

A quick an easy way is to use the feautured item options, (if you're not already using it) , just change the existing image to an image with "Sold" text and mark the items featured

another way is to use the image caption or image credit text box, just type the word "Item Sold" and style it with css. This will only show in the item view.

Or plain simple, add the word "Item Sold" in h2 or h3 tags in the description

This is how i would do it without installing a specific extension, or write a custom plugin using the K2 example plugin and display the text or image using the different hooks.

If it not much of a hassle and you are working on smaller numbers of items, I would use the .htaccess 301 redirects (or the nginx equivalent).

If you are not comfortable working with the .htaccess the Joomla! redirect component offers this type of functionality.

I don't have any expired k2 item for now to show you the link, but the link was 404.

I use sh404 and the expired items are not removed "automatically" from sh404 list.

You cannot automatically remove URLs from the sh404 list.

Did you try the .htaccess or Joomla! redirect solution?

No I can't use redirection.

The items which has been expired are more than 10 item per day and so I am looking for automatically update.
