I'm using Joomla 2.5.7 & K2 2.6.2 (also community builder in case that matters)

I am running a genealogy site for a county. I have a category called parishes of which there are 345. Each is either allocated to a volunteer and linked to them as the author or if there is no volunteer there is an alias set of vacancy.

I am wondering if there is any (fairly simple as I have no advances coding ability) way of having a front page display either through module or something similar with the total count of vacancy articles in the category showing.
