import articles & url changes was created by arathra
I'm thinking of using K2 but have a major question before I do.

We have a knowledgebase of some 1,500 articles in J2.5 right now. Reading through the documentation for K2 I see that we have to import these into the K2 system.

Does that mean all those articles will lose their original - and now quite popular - URLs? Essentially this would mean many broken URLs unless there's an auto redirect or the original URLs are kept.

How does this work?

Thanks!

Hi. First of all you do not need to import your existing articles to K2. You can just build the new content on K2. If that's not the case then the URLs will change. You can handle this in two ways:

1. The best way is to develop a system plugin which will detect the old URLs and redirect them to the new ones.

2. Keep your menu structure as it is. This way the old links will still work but they will point to Joomla! articles and not K2 items.

Thanks, Lefteris.

Unfortunately that means we can't use K2! We have so many articles which we can't convert and re-locate them without risk of losing numerous inbound links.

Shame...
