PLEASE HELP! Sorting Subcategories was created by Noah Goodwin
I am really hoping someone can help me with this. I am in a time crunch and need to have this issue resolved ASAP.

Basically I have a Category called Blog. I then have 4 subcategories under blog: announcements, news and events, videos, and from our staff.

I then have a main Blog page which lists all of the blog postings from the 4 subcategories in a category view. The problem is that I cannot sort all 4 categories overall. I can sort within them by date but the ordering of the categories still determines the overall order. In other words it goes by created date for announcements and lists all announcements, then lists all news by date and so on.

I want it to be like so:
Example blog post 1 (from categories) 1/10/13
Example 2 (from videos) 1/07/13
Example 3 (from categories) 1/5/13
...

I have already looked at what the subcategories inherit from the parent and changed everything to sort by "created date" but this does not seem to impact the overall order.

I hope this is clear. I appreciate any help you can give me in advance. Thank you very much.

Hi William,

My site is not live yet. Can you tell me if it is possible to do what I described?

Noah

Please turn show category in your category and item views so it says something like "posted in" category name

All set, I added the category listing.

Does this help you in determining what the problem is?

It seems that you have 10 items in videos, then one in announcments and one in another category.
I would suggest using a template with grid positions and using the module k2_content to display each category and set their order as you wish. There are only two items on the page, and trying to reorder something that is five pages down doesnt seem worth the effort. I may be missing your point, but enabling the categorys may have made your problem more clear for someone else

What I am trying to do is have the only 2 items on the first page be the 2 newest items overall, not dependent on what category they are in. In other words, sort by date created overall not within category.

Is this possible without using the k2_content module and instead using the category view as I have?

Thank you

Not sure. You may have to have a custom override that intercepts the itemlist and manipulates it somewhat. I still think modules would be best solution, but if you are interested in talking about it, plz email me (see profile)

Fixed it. It ended up being an issue in the Menu item that went to the K2 Category list. Had that sent to "order by id". Changed it to order by date and its all set.

Thanks for your help
