I have looked and looked some more I can't find what is going on. The comment section is not showing.

Test by using joomla default template
Check category settings in item view - show comments
make sure category is using default template
Check category for inheriting paramaters from another category that could have it hidden
check k2 dashboard paramaters - comments tab...enabled for at least registared users
