working with the extended user field plugin

getk2.org/extend/extensions/73-user-extended-fields-for-k2

and the output is not what I need.

I can modify this file to fix the output but my changes will be lost when the extension is upgraded.

Is it possible to create a template override for this file, so that my changes are not lost when the plugin is upgraded?

If you're using Joomla 2.5, just copy the default.php file into your templates/html/userExtendedFields
