For my new Joomla 2.5.11 website, i am wanting to construct a directory website
that will have many categories and subcategories for the users of my site to get a listing.
The requirement I am looking for is that users of my website can get a FREE Listing, but if they want a page of their own (profile page) then they pay per month.
Is that at all possible with the K2 component or extension?
kind regards,
Justin

As for the content, K2 can handle your project.
You can use an extrafield or a K2 plugin to seperate (visually) the paying and the non paying members.
But K2 does not offer however any platform for payments.

I'm planning to write a tutorial on how to use K2 for directory/listing purposes, hope I can find some free time to do that soon.

Thank you for the quick reply
I don't mind paying for extra add-ons or payment extensions :)
So, correct me if I'm wrong, but I can install K2, create many "categories" and "subcategories" .. then i can add somone to a listing, but once someone transfers payment i can manually add their user profile? OR once paid i can grant access for them to fill in info for their profile?
Hope my needs were explained correctly above.
P.S. I am going to test out the free K2 component soon.
Kindest regards :D

both approaches are available, it depends on your needs and specs.
with Akeeba subscriptions, you setup subscription levels and assign them to specific user groups, therefore you can implement the two approaches according to your business requirements.
But the second approach is more automatic than the first one, where you restrict listing creation to a specific user group, and if some user subscribed and paid, he will be added to this user group automatically, after that he will be able to create his listing directly without your interaction as an administrator.

Thank you very much for your help, i shall install K2 and experiment now..
I have incidentally looked at Cobalt as an option, but I am not sure the major differences between K2 and Cobalt :(
But first glance i do very much like the look of K2.
Kind regards

I'm not admin, I'm a community member and have a good knowledge about K2, and would like to help other k2 community members as much as I can.

Thanks Mohammed for your effort and kindness to the community.
I have started my website, which is a directory website, with paid user profiles..
I have 6 Main categories with subcategories for each
I have installed:
K2
Akeeba subscriptions (for just user listings and paid profile users)
Additional fields for K2
I also have purchased the Club membership for extension modules at Smartaddons.com (which i think will do my website good, would give me alot of options)
* My initial idea is, for EACH subcategory that has listings, it should have its own page, with the listings plus a contact number (bare minimum for free listings)
* Then a listing that has a profile page would have a visible link for eg. "View profile".
In my club membership that i bought, there is a module for listings - demo.smartaddons.com/#sj-k2-listing
I don't know if that is the best option to take for my requirement Mohamed?
Unless you have an idea that i could test out.
Kindest regards
Justin

Good luck in the website.
Maybe you can remove or hide the read more link for free listings, and for paid listings you can change the read more link to 'View profile', where all the data are shown.

I have been facing a problem with styling and the look of the listing page..
My idea of a categories listing page would look like this:
imageshack.us/a/img541/8485/bedandbreakfastspage.png
( I just blanked out the numbers in black)
a listing table with a column for a contact number and a column for their profile link.
I am not at all sure on how to tackle this styling,
If anyone can provide some direction for me to research or suggestions please
Thanks!
Justin
