I can't figure out how to remove the ugly 'About the Author' and 'There are no comments yet' comments on a K2 category page like this one:

Which comments plugin do you use? Does it have any options to disable?
If not, then I'm afraid that you can't remove anything.

You could try with CSS but the elements don't have any distinctive classes to target them.

Your comments are not the K2 comments. You are using discussions Comments plugin.
The "About the Author" sentence is coming through that plugin.
