I have not seen this question asked in this forum and I can't understand why. It would seem to me to be really obvious if you are using front end editing you need to use tooltips on your extra fields or add some sort of instructional text next to some of your fields. I don't expect all my editors to know how to fill out a form properly.

Is there an extension I should use or is there a standard solution for me?

my solution was to change per css (right-klick on frontend-modalwindow, use firebug) and apply text for editors.
