I like K2 but my URLs are long enough already without including / k2 / in them.
Is there an easy way to remove'k2' from the URL without affecting the SEF?
I am using Joomla 2.5 and the latest K2.

You need to either map all your K2 content in menu items or use the advanced SEF settings. You can find these settings in K2's parameters.
