There must be a way to have an intro text limited by words that doesn't strip HTML tags... ??

When I add a number to the word limit option of the intro text - the system strips all HTML tags although it's set to not strip in the parameters.

If I disable the word limit then it's OK but misses the point of having a short intro text... doesn't it?

Any ideas?

The answer unfortunately is no.
By not stripping tags your layout would break. This is 110% certain, a <ul> or <div> tag would not close and the whole site would be affected.

If you want more control over your introtext you should use two editors one for introtext and one for fulltext. (This setting is located in the Advanced parameters of K2)
