I'm totally new with K2 and I need to build a cart system with the following specifications and I'm wondering if K2 is the right tool.

Th first complicated thing I need to do is provide a product image and have that image change color as the user selects it. And ideally, I'd like to work with just one colorized grayscale pict, rather than have mutiple pictures each with one color.

The other complex thing I need to do is to provide clients with a product descision tree. For example, first the users are proposed a few product categories, say the select kitchen cabinets, they need to be provided with a range of available products, the once they selected the cabinet, it's size and color, the system needs to propose the cabinet doors, and once that choice is made, it needs to propose them with a selection of door knobs that can fit the selected door model, and so on...

Can I do all that with K2 ? And if so, out of the box ? Or else, which plugins will I need ?

Hello Luis,

K2 is a component with CCK features. In order to use it with a cart component you have to use an e-commerce extension which offers K2 integration.

On good example is VirtueMart with K2Mart. www.joomlaworks.net/extensions/commercial-premium/k2mart

You can use K2's extrafields for multiple images and product variations.

For the second request I think you have to develop a custom component.
