cloaked urls was created by Adrian
Hi,

am struggling to get decent urls like, started with K2 on Friday, eg

architecturaltours.co.uk/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=111:guatemala-architectural-tours

should be

architecturaltours.co.uk/guatemala/guatemala-architectural-tours

have read
getk2.org/blog/1169-k2-v265-released
ie
All you need to do is simply create a new menu in Joomla! (call it "Hidden" as it won't be directly called from any module) and in there create a K2 menu item pointing to all categories. Give this menu item a nice alias, e.g. "show" (as we also do here on getk2.org). If you do this, K2 is now able to "assign" this menu item as "root" for all such "menu orphan" K2 content such as tags, users, search and date listings.

we had hidden already so made a 3rd menu item called show and pointed it at categories

so what do we need to do to solve the url problem please?

Adrian

I also found the second article (getk2.org/blog/1169-k2-v265-released) has more info states this:

Now head over to the K2 parameters and in the "Content" tab look for "Default parent menu for user pages (optional)" and for "Default parent menu for tag listings (optional)" and assign both to this new menu item you created with alias "show".

in the "Content" tab I don't have either of those options, they just don't exist!

ie no

"Default parent menu for user pages (optional)"
or
"Default parent menu for tag listings (optional)"

hope to hear back soon!

also, it states this:
Set the limits for leading, primary etc. all to zero and disable pagination & rss.

little bit vague,
eg should featured items be set to show or hide? it doesn't say.

would be great to have precise, step by step guidelines, surely every site needs sef urls?!

I also spotted in parameters.advanced there is a section not mentioned in the url cloakign guidance, ie
Advanced SEF Settings,
this was not checked, but is now,
still no fix for the url.

however probably the key sticking point is in my content tab I don't have the two items mentioned, need to know why please.

Also....how do you add 'alias' as column?

for some bizarre reason we have everything apart from alias, like having a street of house with no numbers, in joomla i find every article by its alias, alphabetically, have googled for hours with no luck,

should be standard, but if not then an easy fix required please.

seems like k2 is some none-user-friendly aspects.......

Hello Adrian,

The SEF permalinks are handled through Joomla! and not K2. You need to activate them through your site's global configuration before using K2's advanced SEF.

architecturaltours.co.uk/guatemala/ does not appear to have a menu item linked to it so it will always produce 404 errors.

Perhaps you have mistaken orphan items with mapping content to menus.
You need to map all of your content to menus and then use the advanced SEF settings if order to get clean URLS for tags and user pages.

Eg. If you don't have a guatemala menu item the /gueatemala path will never work without an SEO extension.

not sure what you mean, we've run joomla for 6 yrs,

we have published a page and category, both should be online

as you know we asked about the missing alias column, can you answer that please, it is like wrokign with one hand behind our back,

we have a page with id 111 in the guatamala folder
we linked page title to page alias ie guatemala-architectural-tours

therefore we would expect to have a url like this
architecturaltours.co.uk/show/guatemala/guatemala-architectural-tours.htm
but because of this convoluted sef system of a show folder (why so complex?)
it should be online at architecturaltours.co.uk/show/guatemala/guatemala-architectural-tours.htm
but it isn't.

we have a category and a page, we have the hidden menu item, what else do we need to do?

in our joomla we have 17,000 pages, none of them are linked to menu items, menus are for navigation ie basic elements like news, events, jobs, we can't have a menu item for every page or else we would have to spend weeks making 17,000 menu items!
