I am wondering the same this. Right now the only thing keeping in the K2 camp are extra fields, and when Joomla adds those natively, I will be hard pressed to maintain a bifurcated system. I would think that as soon as Joomla has their API ready, K2 would be no more than a couple months away from delivering K2 2.6.8 that incorporates Joomla new SQL table structure.
