K2 not using template was created by Simon
Hi all!

Ok so I installed K2, imported articles, created a category and linked articles to it, created an items menu linked to the category. I also created a module showing articles.

You can see the page here : lyndarenee.com/index.php/articles5

Now, k2 is not using my template at all. When I go in an article, the background should be lines like in this article : lyndarenee.com/index.php/le-travail

And the module should not show yellow background on every 2 lines.

In the category - Category Item layout - select a template - I only have use default as an option.

What did I do wrong?

Thanks guys!
Simon

Hello Simon,

The first link you have provided returns a 404 page. Could you post another one to check it out?

Thank you.

This is because the default k2.css is loading in that page. You can either add the styles already in use for your other pages to the k2.css as well (first copy it from components/com_k2/css/ to templates/your_template/css/) or disable the k2.css through K2 parameters and add the styles in your template.css file.

Either way you will have to add CSS for the K2 pages to show like the other ones.

Hi again,

I'm sorry I don't understand. I'm quite new to Joomla...

2 questions:

So you say that if I disable k2.css, k2 will revert to get it's css data from template.css?

I know my template is made of css files but I would not know how to take the "styles" you refer to and add them to k2.css or to template.css.

What css files contains those styles ?

Should I just copy personal.css over template.css?

Thank you for your help again!!

If you Disable k2.css then all css K2 needs for your site you will have to provide it in your template.css file.

Maybe you could advise your template provider to help you better with this.

Hi Yiota,

Thanks again. I don't have a template provider, the guy vanished. I looked a bit into css since yesterday. You are saying that, in order to install and use K2 in an already existing site or on a new site that I wish to have a specific look and feel other that the default K2 looks, I have to create some css for K2. Which means I open K2.css and for each selector there, I configure so it looks like the rest of my site!?

A hell of a job!

Is it the same with every extentions that use css?

I thought a template already contained everything and that extentions where supposed to adapt with the template not go on their own and be blue while my site is pink. I'm shocked!

Well anyway thanks for your help Yiota I really appreciate!

Each extension, specifically one the size of K2, has its own structure and uses classes of its own so unless your template supports it you won't have to make any modifications. If not, then you or your template provider should provide the appropriate styles to accomplish the result you need.

Just make sure to copy the k2.css file in your template folder as I stated in my previous post because if you modify the one inside the components folder you will lose all changes once an upgrade of K2 occur.
