install was created by howard
Downloaded K2, installed succesfully, but nothing shows anywhere. Either in control panel or components, everything looks enabled.

Clean your cache and purge the expired cache as well.
Finally clear your browser's cache as well.

Did you try reinstalling? Are you using APC?

I think I am having the same issue.
Here is what happens.
I can install k2 but the backend menu item does not display. If I type in the URL
www.DOMAIN.com/administrator/index.php?option=com_k2
I can access and configure k2 just fine. This has happened on several new Joomla 3.0 sites.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks! -- Steven

I discovered something very interesting about the backend k2 component menu item.
When the xmap plugin is published the K2 admin menu item shows, when the xmap/k2 plugin is not published then the k2 menu item does not show.
Any seen this happen before?
@howard do you have Xmap installed?

No I do not have installed. I did have it working OK on a seperate joomla test installation, and was working OK. I then uninstalled it from this installation and it completely ruined the admin panel. All I ended up with was K2 icons down the left hand side with no basic Joomla icons or menues. Clicking on any of these K2 icons ended up on error pages. So deleted this installation completely and reinstalled another test site.
This whole K2 thing now seems too dangerous to use on my published installation and if the above happened to this it would be disasterous so just not going to bother.
K2 designers I think there is work to do!

I too have used in personal sites xmap with its K2 plugin, but they were all either 2.5.x or 1.5.26. It appears to work fine.
@Steven I always install K2 first then all other extensions. Did you by any chance install xmap first?
@Howard There is probably something wrong with your setup. It is not normal for a component to be uninstalled and still see its modules. Make sure your file/folder permissions are correct as well as the path to your /tmp /log folders.
To reinstate Joomla!'s quick icons you have to re enable this administrator module.
