I am new to K2 (installed it 2 days ago) and want to include an image gallery into a blogpost. At the image gallery tab it is mentioned that you have to install simple image gallery pro. Is it possible to include an image gallery without this extension?

I'm afraid not. You could use the free version of the Simple Image gallery plugin and use the {gallery} tags inside your content.
