I had the commenting on and I was hit with spam like there is no tomorrow. I had to delete about 22880 almost something comments from my articles. I also noticed that under my 'popular article' modules, some articles have more than 44000+ hits and everytime I refresh, the hits change.

I am wondering what is causing it? There are only a certain articles that does that... some of them are totally fine.

To avoid spaming for your comments enable both Recaptca and Akismet if you have them enabled for non registered users.
The hits work that way. They increase every time you refresh the page. If you want you can reset them in the backend of every item's page.
