I'm setting up a blog / newsletter and on the homepage I'd like to show featured items.
Ideally, the last item would be published in total and other items would be shortened with "read more" link.

I've tried configuring Menu for K2 Category and use featured items, but that just makes the page completely blank. I don't know how to troubleshoot the error :-/

So you want to show 1 Leading and all others Primary items. They would all be Featured.
What are the options you have set in your Home page menu item?

Note that you will have to add multiple categories in order to activate the fields to setup Leading and Primary items in the menu item.

Currently I just have a menu configured for categories: pbrd.co/1jHEycP

The configuration is pretty much default: pbrd.co/1jHERo2

This results in a totally blank home page: pbrd.co/1jHF1M8


If I change menu to display K2 latest items, it works. So something is wrong with category module it seems.

Do you use K2 template overrides?
Also, enable error reporting to see what is the actual error you are getting in your homepage.

Ahh... there seems to be a bug in the template. I'll try to figure it with the tempalte provider.
