I have a pretty good question.
I have K2 installed and with my current template, i can choose a style for the article to display with
but i was wondering.

Its is possible to have items in CATEGORY VIEW display with one style?
while the actual ITEMS in ITEM VIEW display with a different style?

For example, i have the HARDCORE template from Joomlaxtc.com
demo.joomlaxtc.com/hardcore/

I also have the Stylecouncil template from them.

Ok i like the ITEM VIEW to be (default or Normal)
But i like way the articles layout in ITEM in CATEGORY VIEW while using the HARDCORE style

Since this is a template issue and not a K2 issue you will have to ask your template provider in order to help you with this.

how is this a template issue?
im just asking if i can use a template style for an ITEM
and a template style for CATEGORY.

Im just asking if its possible with K2.

IF i only had ONE template (the original Joomla Default Template ) isntalled and no others
i would still ask the same question. if i did that and followed your reply, the makers of Joomla would tell me to come back here and ask the people at K2.....
its not a template "issue"
Its a question of it being something that K2 can do and has setting for

The only way you can assign a Joomla! template to either a category or item page is if they have a menu item.

Now, you can have different K2 templates between K2 categories which will also allow you to have different listing and item views.

You can read here on how K2 sub-templates work:
