Hi,

on my Joomla site I have very much categories which mostly have quite a few sublevels.

Within this hierarchy, i want some users to have specific rights in one category, but not in another.
For example if my hierarchy looks like this:
1.
1.1
1.1.1
1.1.2
1.1.3
1.2
1.2.1
1.2.2

I want UserX to have just read rights in all categories beginning with 1, but have writing rights in categories within category 2.

How do I manage this? It would be very simple if I could assign him 2 user groups.

For reading rights you can use Joomla!'s ACL and create various access levels. You can assign a user to multiple Joomla! user groups so that isn't an issue.

For writing and editing you have to use the K2 Group.

Thank you for your reply.
My user should be able to post comments to category 1 and 2 (including the sublevels), but only have writing rights in category 2.2.1 (for example).

My real world scenario is, that users from a company support can read support news regarding products. They can post comments to different news and support guidelines in order to improve the article quality. But some users have extended rights and should write and publish articles in specific categories (like 2.2.1).

When i put my publishing-user in a K2 User group "special", i can give him publish rights to one specific category, but he loses all the settings for the other categories. He can not post comments anymore on any other category because i put him in the special user group which only allows him to publish to one special section.

I hope this makes my scenario more clear. Multiple user groups would solve this problem i guess.

Please do not double post.

You can use User Group hierarchy (parent user groups etc...) to support multi level access.

Hello Krikor,

group hierarchy does only work in joomla groups, but sadly not with K2.
Joomla group hierarchy does not help me when i need to give users specific K2 rights like the ability to comment or to edit articles in specific k2 categories.
