I saw a Directory Listing Site that has a nice category listing display:

Is there a way in K2 display k2 Categories & subcategories on the front page like that?
I tried K2 tools but it only shows items?

You can use the Catalog mode setting on your parent category in order to achieve part of that.
It will go up to first level of subcategories and then once you click on one you will get to the second level and so one until you reach the items.

If you are using the Categories List (Menu) you can narrow down the subcategories through the option "Levels to render" in the module settings.

I mean the amount of categories to display for level 1
