Is there a sitewide K2 setting to display authors username instead of real name ?

Do I have to go thru all templates to modify code ?

That would be views, user, item,category-item,etc... ? Seems kinda fastidious, no ?

I'm afraid that there is no option for that. You will have to create K2 overrides and change the name to username in all views.

I hope this will be a feature in future versions of K2 (along with choosing usergroup at registration). Would be a real nicety in K2 !
