Could you write something on top of the item.php file to make sure that this is actually the one we are making the changes in?

Just edit the item.php file an right under this <div id="k2Container" ...>
add a <p> this is the correct file </p> and check if you see it in the link you have provided below.

AH that helped me narrow it down. Seems i had two different directories with templates and it was throwing me off. Thanks a lot.
