I have created several k2 products, all items of jewellery. I have created the extra field of metal with the options of silver and gold.

I would like the product to be visible at the front end showing both metal options for a customer to choose. Are you able to tell me how i set this up? At the moment i only seem to get one option showing

I'm not sure to fully understand.

If I'm correct, you have an article with variants like this :

Article : Ring
Variant1 : gold
Variant2 : silver

So your item is in category 'Rings' and you've made 2 extrafields fot that category, 'gold' and 'silver' ? (check your extrafield groups & be sure that the group is related to category 'Rings')

You'll have to fiddle with K2 template to have both extrafields to show as you like (personnaly, I use SWTabs,) ... but normally, both should already show as a list at the bottom of the item page.

The extrafields 'gold' and 'silver' should both be text zones so you can put in pics & texts.

Extra fields in K2 just output some data. There is no way to make a select list and have the user select one of the options.

Just following up on the last reply. If i can't achieve this with extra fields, do you know another way that i can achieve this?

Since you have products that you want to sell you need to use a commerce extension. K2 out of the box cannot be an eshop.
