I was in a hurry, and didn't think things through....

well, I didn't have access to the old joomla site, so I didn't see or notice it was built mostly using K2 items

now I went ahead and migrated using SP upgrade with success...

then I get a 404 error on the front page and start to check it out, and see that most of the Menu items are K2

I see that I can migrate the K2 content.....BUT

my question is, can I do it AFTER I have done the Joomla files?

Hi. Yes you can but it's not an easy process. You can read this posts getk2.org/documentation/tips-a-tricks/311-manually-migrating-k2-content-from-joomla-15-to-17 and getk2.org/community/English-K2-Community/2233-Migrating-Items-from-15-to-17. The only thing that will not get migrated if you follow this procedure is the component, category, and item settings. Maybe it would be better to create a new instance, copy of the original site and migrate using an extension. Then you will have to just copy the K2 database tables from the migrated site to the current site.
