My H1-H2 etc, tags are styled for the site wide preferences that I have.

However, for blog post series I post to the same menu items but depending on the topic or series I change the color schemes.

This said, I have a requirement to be able to on an article-by-article basis change the color of the heading tag titles - is this something I can do with k2?

Hi. You can make template overrides for K2 and then apply a class name based on item id or even better on the category id. First read getk2.org/documentation/tutorials/174-templating-with-k2-and-the-concepts-of-sub-templates. Then you can do what you want in many ways. One would be to use different template per K2 category. The other could be what i told you regarding the category id.
