I have seen this is an issue but I can not gfet a soluton.

I have tried editing the code but that does not work

I tired the this plugin

Hi. I don't understand what you are writing. The link you provided is pointing to a plugin which is not part of K2. If you are having issues with that plugin ask it's developers for help.

The Read More button does not work in K2 and I do not know how to fix this

Just tested and the read more button works fine for me. Which Joomla/K2 versions are you using? Try to disable some other editor plugins since probably one of them is causing the error.

I have also spoken with a developer who says K2 does not support read more as part of category - in our case we have the news category. Is this true?

Since you are talking about category description, then the answer is what they already told you. K2 categories do not support read more in their description.
