Blank page on saving in K2 & Joomla 3.3 was created by Wire Creative
Hi, I'm putting together a new Joomla 3.3 site with K2. In K2 only whenever I try to save an item (and sometimes categories), I get a blank page. The save is successful, but I have to manually enter the URL of the main Joomla admin control panel and then navigate back into K2. All the other components, so far, work fine. The K2 items also seem to work fine on the frontend.

Is this a bug w/r/t k2 compatibility with the new 3.3? I don't have any admin plugins that I'm aware of that should be interfering with this.

I've tried turning on error reporting and checking the php errors on the server, but so far haven't found any relevant error messages.

Thanks,
Greg

Hi. How have you turned on error reporting? You need to go to Joomla! configuration and set error reporting to "Maximum". You should get a fatal error the next time you get a white screen. You can also go to K2 infromation page and check some values there like "memory limit".

Thanks for the help!

That is how I turned on the error reporting, but it hasn't made any difference at all. Still no error messages, just a blank white page at the URL /administrator/index.php.

The K2 information page says "Memory limit 128M"

I've been trying to figure out why some categories will save but others won't, but most of them are identical except for the category name. I haven't gotten deep into configuring anything yet.

Update: This may be a factor? I updated this site from 3.2.2 to 3.3 and then reinstalled K2, I did all this prior to importing my k2 categories and items (using the extension jimigrator from jinfinity), but I suppose it's possible there's something that didn't upgrade correctly.

Try to:

1. Enable system debugger.
2. Disable some third-party K2 plugins.
3. Try to create a new category and see if you get the same behavior.

Thanks again for your advice.

The joomla debugger doesn't load on the blank page after saving, so it doesn't help. I've disabled all the k2 plugins except for the system - k2. I can't determine a rhyme or reason why some categories work but others don't. I'm going to try exporting all the k2 content, uninstall k2, and then reinstall it clean and see if that works.

Thanks.

I fixed my own problem.

This is what appears to have caused it:
  1. Installed Joomla 3.2
  2. Installed K2 2.6.8
  3. Joomla update to 3.3
  4. Re-installed K2 2.6.8

Something in that process resulted in a K2 installation that crashed while saving all items, most categories, and refused to upload/add images to categories.

To fix it, I did the following:
  1. Used Jinfinity's JiMigrator to export all K2 items and categories
  2. Backed up site with Akeeba Backup
  3. Uninstalled K2
  4. Re-installed K2 2.6.8
  5. Used Jinfinity's JiMigrator to re-import the K2 items and categories

Now I can add/edit K2 items, add photos, and edit categories like I'm used to.

I am glad you solved this. However i cannot get what might caused that.
