is it possible with little modification...

when you are in the detail screen of a item.
there is a next or previews button.
if you click on it.. it will load the next item in the same category..

not just the next item..but the next item in the same category ?

Hi. Yes. This already exists in K2. It is named item navigation. Check the category settings for it and enable it.
