I am new to this, so please take your time with me :).

What I need is a plugin to K2 that can create thumbnails - a square or rectangle - for the frontpage and a larger image for the article, which also can be even larger when clicked upon.

Which plugin can do this.

I think you should ask the extension developer.
I am sure he knows best.

Although I have nor heard of such a plugin you can look at the JED or here: getk2.org/extend
