I know this is a much discussed k2 issue, but as I am about to launch a new site I would really like to get this sorted from the get go. Ideally I would just like to use Joomla 3 & K2's built in option but going by the forum duplicates url's seem to still be an issue.

Anway to cut a long story short I have seen Canonical Links for K2 plugin on the Joomla extensions site link here it does have a lot of good reviews but these cannot always be trusted, so I was hoping if anyone on here has tried it maybe they could give some feedback.

Also short list of best steps to take for eliminating duplicates url's although I have used sh404sef on previous sites I would prefer just trying the canonical link only approach so any advice would be most appreciated. Oh and yes I always create menu items for any categories I create.

I have not used this plugin but if other users trust it then I think you should try it.
It certainly has good reviews.

To avoid Duplicate URL's you can do two things:
a) Use the plugin and
b) map ALL your content (K2 Categories) in menu items.

Or

a) Use K2's advanced SEF
b) Strip the category prefix from the items
c) Implement this solution: github.com/joomlaworks/k2/issues/133
d) This plugin might be handy as well in this solution. Just in case check with the developer if the extension supports this solution and will output canonical links that match your settings.

Thx for the feedback I will give the Canonical Links for K2 plugin a try after I contact the developers, because I am also using Additional Categories for K2 "which I forgot to mention" so I will have to check if that will have any effect in regards to duplicate urls.

Do you have any experience using the Additional Categories plugin & if so does it cause duplicate url's to be created ?

If you strip the category prefix in item URL's I do not think that it will play any part.

These are my current Advanced SEF settings

Enable advanced SEF for K2 URL's = Yes
Prefix for category URLs = content

are these settings ok ?

Also select none for: Prefix for item URLs
