Blank screen thrown in backend was created by Manos Krokos
Hello, my K2 based website started throwing blank screen whenever I try to save my K2 parameters or create a new K2 User module. There might be other instances that this is happening but I have not seen them.
Saving a K2 item works like a charm.

I have enabled maximum error reporting but the resulting blank page is completely void of any content... visible or not. And no source code whatsoever.

Anyone with any ideas on the matter?

Manos K

Sadly I am in the dark as well.
Have you tried development error reporting?
Are there any fatal error recorded on your error_log?

Hello Krikor and thanks for the reply.

I have tried everything when it comes to error reporting. Nothing is logged whatsoever.

The strangest thing: Now, the same thing happens with ALL modules (ie, pressing any button like Save, Cancel etc throws blank screen). Also the same thing started happening with the Global Confuguration as well. I can't seem to be able to save any changes there either.

I replaced the database with a previous day backup dump, and for a while Global configuration and the rest of the modules worked OK. The K2 User module (which was the one where I first noticed the issue) was still throwing blanks. After a while, the rest of the modules AND GC started throwing blanks again.

The only thing that I can think of is Suhosin but I disabled it from the account completely. It is still logging every now and then but it won't drop or block anything.

This is really bizarre and it's driving me nuts!

Here are some php notices from the error log... If you can make anything from them

This post probably won't help you, but below is a link to another thread that I started with a similar issue, but mine acts the same way on the frontend as well. I have yet to find an answer... If you read the thread, you'll see that I was able to get it working again by taking a backup of the data, uninstalling K2, then re-installing K2. Once I did that, it would save correctly, however all my articles were gone. However, when I re-imported the old data, then it broke again. So, it seems to me that something weird is going on with the data which is causing the issue.

These are warnings not actual errors.
They will not cause error or alter your site's functionality.

Is there a Fatal Error recorded?

Also since this is a global issue it is probably unrelated to K2.
Is your site experiencing heavy traffic? It could be mySql crashing and causing tables to lock. Have you tried repairing your DB tables?

hello Krikor,

Yes, they are warnings and they have nothing to do with the issue.

There are no Fatal Errors recorded whatsoever.

I understand that the issue might be unrelated to K2 but what puzzles me is that:

I do a fresh install from a backup. Everything works, Global Configuration is accepting changes etc.
I am making changes to other modules, not problem.
I am trying to make changes to K2 User module. Problem arises. And after that, Global Configuration and other modules are affected too. Like something is triggered by the K2 User module and gets corrupted for the rest of the installation.

I have tried to repair the database via Joomla's function and also tried Repair and Optimize tables by Admin Tools. No cigar! :(

If the problem lies with that module you should reinstall K2.
If you are using 3.3 then you should use the DEV version.

Yes, actually I am using 3.3.

I have tried reinstalling K2 as well as the whole Joomla but no luck. Is the DEV version suitable for a live site?

Sure, since you have already recents backups you can update with no fear.
