This may sound weird but I have this problem, I made menu items for my main k2 categories and some sub k2 categories and used them on site, then I made a menu item of all my k2 categories (altogether) for ' archive ' part of my site. so when you go to archive you see a list of all my items and categories, the problem starts where i post new items and sometimes that item instead of appearing in its main menu item (with that part of my site modules) appears on archive (with archive kinds of modules around it).
