For my homepage I created a menu item using k2 Last items from one or more categories. Create a template override for it and the content is there. The issue is ordering. It appears that the output group the categories and then orders by latest. I don't care about the grouping I just wanted a list of the most recent articles in date order.

Perhaps I should use K2 categories but I am trying to understand the logic here and k2 categories does not provide the same options. Advice appreciated.

The latest items by Users/Categories menu does exactly what its title says.
It brings the latest items from the specified categories.

If you want multiple ordering options you need to either use a K2 Content module or the K2 Categories menu item.
