Duplicate URL was created by Accord WithNature
So I'm using k2 and sh404 and I noticed that I am constantly generating 0-15 url's for all my sites. I dont think it matters so much because i am using sh404 but it bugs me that I can't stop it. I've tried everything i can think of and googling it isn't helping too much.

Is it K2 generating my extra url's?
My menu structure? I notice my sitemap has a k2 items listing and a main menu listing, is that the source of the duplicates and how do i stop it?
it reads like this

K2
--list of my 6 categories
sh404 custom content
main menu
--6 categories
Sub menu remote control
--10 categories
sub menu products

I read somewhere in a k2 review by the owner that creating a hidden menu item linking all k2 items would keep from generating duplicates. but im entirely lost and pretty frustrated. any help would be appreciated

Hello,

The sitemap is not a part of K2.
K2 uses Joomla!'s router to generate URLs which means URLs can be accessible from either the menu item or the component itself (/component/com_k2 etc..).

Normally by mapping your content into menu items you won't have an issue with double content.
However having a plugin that generates the wrong sitemap both these URLs can be crawled.

You have two options to avoid duplicate content.
a) use sh404sef (which you are using)
b) use a canonical link plugin for K2.

The hidden menu towards all categories is not needed if you are using sh404sef. This method forces all orphan tags and users to render through that menu item, hence no duplicate urls for tags.

i was afraid you were going to say that!

I know that technically sh404 solves my problem, but i'm just vert OCD about trying to keep my websites back end neat. I know it can get out of control, but it bugs me when i see 14 copies of a website. Based on everything i've read so far the only solution is to cover up the problem one way or another

Yes, since the wrong sitemap was generated, you only have these two options. If you do not want the overhead of another extension you can use a canonical link extension.
