I wanted to see if there was anyway that the filter options for k2 items could be easily expanded to another option or modify an existing option?

Our magazine site sorts frontend items by 'Newest first - Publish Date'. Therefore, we'd like to sort the items in the backend in the same order, at least have the option.

However, in the backend admin area, the only date options to sort k2 items are 'created date' and modified_date'

Anyone find a way to add 'publish date' to the administrator area sorting options? Any help appreciated!

By default this is not possible. You can look at the JED for an extension that extends K2's backend filters.
