The subcategory sorting option is called "Sub-category ordering" and it is located under the category view options.

Anyway I selected "Ordering" everywhere, with no result for the sub-categories ordering, and now, once more for the items.
My structure :
Root category : The Festival
Sub-categories : 2014 - 2013 - 2012 - 2011 ....
Items : Group A - Group B - Group C .....
THE PROBLEMS :
1 - In the K2 admin of the root category "Festivals" , I select "Ordering" for " Sub-category ordering" => Doesn't work (but reverse ordering of the sub-categories)
2 - For the first year (sub-category 2014) , I select "ordering" for "Item ordering" (and for "Sub-category ordering ... in case ...) => Doesn't work (but reverse ordering of the items).
Strangely, the items of the first sub-category (2014) are not correcly sorted in frontend (but reverse), and all the others, with inherit parameters from the sub-category 2014 are correct !
I become crazy with this problem.

You never replied. You have to keep in mind that this is an open-source project and I do not have the privilege to offer 24/7 nor this level of personalised support. If I accepted credentials from each user, the tickets would probably never be answered.

Sometimes people forget what open source and different timezones mean (this is meant not for you).
You can use the contact form to send me credentials.

I just found the solution to sort the items in category blog : I didn't notice the field "Item ordering" in the menu manager, for the link to a K2 category.
And it seems to have priority, before the category ordering parameter.
That's why my first category was not sorted correctly, and the others were inherit from this one.
However, I still can't change the ordering of the sub-categories list. (2014, 2013, 2012 ...).

The subcategory handling options are located under the category's parameters.
Did you change these as well?

- the Menu link/Option/ Item ordering
- the category and sub-catgory parameters of the main and all sub-categories (Festivals/2014-2013-2012...).
But, as I said, the items were sorted correctly, but the sub-categories were not.
Now, I just selected "Inherit from the category" for the main category menu link ... and IT WORKS !
As you said "The menu item will override the settings of the category." I would like to understand why it doesn't work for me, in case I need this information later.

As I said, now it works, with "Inherit" selected for the menu link ordering option.
But, I don't understand why it doesn't work with "Ordering" selected in this field.

Meanwhile, I noticed that I can put anything in this field (Menu link/Option/ Item ordering) and now it doesn't change the ordering of the sub-categories !! It's always good (2014-2013-2012-....).
The ordering management of K2 is a big mystery for me .

Trust me on this, K2's ordering is much more logical compared to Joomla's article system.

But I don't see the utility of an empty category so that all the same level categories can inherit the parameters, because we can ajust the parameters of an active first category for that.
I did all my (very numerous) tests without cache, and the problem is that, one time, the menu ordering parameter overrided the category parameter, and now it doesn't change anything in the ordering of the sub-categories list, whatever I select in Menu link/Option/ Item ordering. ("Ordering" is selected everywhere in the categories and sub-categories parameters).

If that's not the case, keep in mind this:
- We first check the ordering in each category
- If the ordering (and other params) is inherited from some other category, we check that category instead.
- Finally, we check if the ordering is being overridden inside a menu item. Keep in mind there are 2 different ordering controls inside the K2 category menu item, one for when linking to a single category and one for linking to multiple categories. Check which control is enabled.
Ordering is very important in huge media portal deployments. Keep in mind K2 has been extensively tested and working for many many years, powering some of the world's top news portals built with Joomla. So, if there was a bug in ordering inheritance, we would probably already know.
Now, in order for us to help you, I need you to explain your structure (be specific) and which ordering you want to achieve when you're calling the menu items and when you're viewing your K2 categories (if they are not linked via some menu item).
If needed, setup a demo site with K2 only, import the default Joomla sample data to get some articles, and experiment by modifying ordering only.

For me is solved. In my case: settings are default(K2), default(categories), ordered (items) and most important it is not the matter of logic but I have tu "turn" around all items to see what is right order. Funny but that is the way....
