I am a very newbie and learning as i am working on my website. I am trying to get my website to look like the first image of most recent and popular article category but my website looks like image 2. Please help.

If these module templates are available in your template you need to address this issue to the template's developer.

In any other case, you can override the K2 Content module and create new subtemplates to match the design of the image you sent me.
