The website has a K2 installation used for the blog, and I have been getting blank pages on K2 items only (category view works fine) since I moved the website to an older server.
I just need to make this installation work for another 2 weeks until the new website is ready.
Would appreciate any insight on the issue, thanks.

Update to K2 2.6.9
If the issue persists then go to your site's global configuration and enable the error reporting setting, set it to development to see the actual issue.

Your server does not have the PHP multibyte module installed.

Is there any workaround to this, e.g. falling back to an older version of K2?

You can grab a $10 coupon from DigitalOcean and move it to a new VPS for a month or so. It will take a couple of hours but you can keep the VPS afterwards.

Anything can go wrong with a new migration, and at this point it is best to concentrate my time and effort on the new site, instead of the old site that will only be in place for 7-10 days more.
Again, thanks x1.000 Krikor. You provided me with a complete solution. It is only the temporary nature of the project that makes it not worth resolving.
Have a great day!!!

Error: reporting: Fatal error: Call to undefined function mb_internal_encoding() in /home/britepen/public_html/TRIAX/components/com_k2/helpers/route.php on line 93
Line 94 from route.php: mb_regex_encoding("UTF-8");
You suggested multibyte module not install would this apply to my issue as well?

You should contact your host in order to install/activate the PHP mbstring extension.
