Categories list (menu) associated with Joomla Menu was created by Adrian Diehm
Im using "K2 Tools - Categories List (menu)" and the URLS in the list it creates are automatically linked to a Joomla Menu and there does not seem to be any way to control this.
Example : This is one of the URL's generated by the "Category List (menu)" and its linked to the Joomla menu item "Latest"
allaboutmovies.net.au/index.php/latest/itemlist/category/1-day-bill-posters
If I un-publish Joomla menu item "Latest" and clear the Joomla Cache the URL's generated by the "Category List (menu)" randomly select a different Joomla menu item eg "categories"
allaboutmovies.net.au/index.php/categories/itemlist/category/1-day-bill-posters
This is driving me nuts! - How do i make "K2 Tools - Categories List (menu)" use a specific Joomla Menu item or no joomla menu.
I want to assign a separate page class to the joomla menu item "latest" so the latest items can be styled differently - The problem is "K2 Tools - Categories List (menu)" keeps hijacking this Joomla Menu as part of its URL's and then the associated page class is also assigned.

The most effective way would be to map each K2 category into a separate menu item. This will ensure clean URLs and more control over your layout and modules.

That can't be the only solution - If that is the only solution then why use "K2 Tools - Categories List (menu)" ? I may as well manually create a separate menu with entries for each category. The advantage of using "K2 Tools - Categories List (menu)" is that the menu listing updates automatically as new categories are created without the need to manually create Joomla Menu items.
I have since discovered that this problem exists for K2 Tools - in "Tag Cloud" mode as well.
The problem also happens when you view a K2 item - It just randomly picks a Joomla Menu to latch on to. This has the undesired side effect of upsetting the SEF URL's and the Breadcrumbs
Do I need to create separate Joomla menu items for every K2 Category, K2 Tag and K2 Item in my website that has close to 4000 K2 items?
Another K2 extension I'm using called "K2 Filter & Search module" has an option for "Itemid for search results page" where it can be set to Automatic or a selected Menu Item ID.
So there is a way to do it - I would love to know where in the K2 Code it randomly selects the Joomla Menu item to link to so i can delete this functionality. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

One bulletproof setup would be a menu item for each category (items do not need a menu item).
Then create a hidden menu item (K2 Category type) and leave the category selection blank. Call it eg: content, then all Tag and User URLs will be rendered from that menu item.
