sh404SEF integration was created by Philip Curnow
I read that sh404SEF integration has been decoupled from K2 core. We still use the last version of sh404SEF before it became Weeblr (and K2 v 2.6.9). Will upgrading to K2 v2.7..0. have any unwanted effects? eg lose all the settings already in the sh404SEF integretion fields in K2 parameters? tks

Hi,

Yes, the SH404SEF integration has been removed completely, including the parameters.

Weeblr (the makers of sh404SEF) have been aware of the change to K2 for nearly six months now. sh404SEF already works without dedicated settings in K2.

I've just had a look at the site that I've upgraded and all URLs continue to work as before, even those modified in sh404SEF.

Yes sure they do, since they are in sh404's table in the database. Try creating a new item and see what happens

I think I'll stick to 2.6.9 then, cause I don't want to start all over again, as i have other things than just K2, relying on sh404SEF.

What I think is, that Weeblr has had the same idea as a lot of people, that K2 2.7.0 and K2 3 wasn't going to see the light of day, and because of that they wouldn't do anything.

Historically in 'K2 Parameters - Advanced - sh404SEF integration' there are settings such as 'sh404SEF URL prefix for users', 'sh404SEF URL category prefix for items' and 'Use 'Title Alias' (instead of 'Title') for K2 URLs '. We use all three in conjunction with sh404SEF and we get our nice SEF urls.

The point which has not been clearly answered is this. In K2 v 2.7.0. these parameters have been decoupled, so will the historically nice SEF urls now lose their 'prefix for users' or 'Title alias' etc?

Weeblr have told me that they expect upcomng K2 plugins for sh404SEF by JoomlaWorks to resolve any changes. Upcoming commercial plugins are also announced by Fotis.

Logically, there is no problem, but I am also reluctant to upgrade to K2 V 2.7.0 at the moment, although I really really want to!

Let me put your mind at ease. There is absolutely nothing of significance to be gained by "upgrading" to k2 2.7 . As it stands now, it is more of a downgrade than anything else. If you have any php knowledge you can check the files and compare them one by one to 2.6.9. and you'll then see for yourself. K2 2.7 is just one step towards stripping k2 of useful features (a process that will be complete with k2 v.3 ), so that they can provide these features later on through commercial plugins. That's fine by me, what is not fine is the fact that they release what they call an upgrade, without releasing the necessary commercial plugins as well.

A quick note on this after playing around with 2.7 on one of my active sites - yes, sh404SEF fails to create the nicely formatted URLs in 2.6.8, so they're on par with the Joomla router.

But you can still edit them in sh404SEF without a problem.

So for sites with large numbers of URLs generated daily, it's probably worth waiting for the sh404SEF plugin.

For everyone else, it's the work of a few seconds to update the URL.

And yeah, while it's not super special to remove functionality so you can build plugins to charge for it, there have been many, many instances over the years of people asking how they could pay/donate to Joomlaworks to get work done faster.

Congrats. You will now have a way.
